Advocacy & Partnerships

From the Commissioner’s office to the bus terminal, we take the message to where decisions are made and where people are.

Government

Working with the State Ministry of Health

On 20 March 2024, a BASC delegation met the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Oyo State, Dr Ajetunmobi, and the Permanent Secretary, Dr Ayinde. The Commissioner encouraged us to use the state health insurance scheme to support beneficiaries, to submit a formal proposal, to seek ethical approval for genotype testing, and to partner with established sickle cell organisations such as the Champions Sickle Cell Club at Chrisbol Medical Hospital, Akobo.

Community

Taking awareness to the people

On 7 September 2023, we set up a canopy at Ojoo Bus Terminal, a hub that connects Ibadan to cities across Nigeria. Thousands of passengers pass through every day, making it one of the best places to spread the message about genotype awareness.
