World Sickle Cell Day
Every 19 June the world pauses to listen to sickle cell warriors. So do we.
19 June every year
World Sickle Cell Day is marked globally to help people understand how to ease the pain of sickle cell disease, to encourage genetic counselling before marriage, and to promote research towards a cure. BASC Initiative celebrates it with health talks, community awareness, blood drives and recognition of young advocates.
World Sickle Cell Day 2025
Our 2025 programme brought together students, volunteers and guests under the banner “Shine the Light on Sickle Cell.” The day featured talks, student participation, genotype awareness materials, and certificates and plaques presented to participants.

About two dozen warriors and relatives attended, alongside seven volunteers.
